Both a musician and a mathematician, Pierre Carré is a graduate of the CNSMDP in Écriture, Orchestration and Musicology, and holds a research PhD in Mechanics and Acoustics completed at UPMC/IRCAM. His transdisciplinary artistic proposals, combining sound and visual arts, explore themes at the junction of the cultural, natural and technological spheres. Drawing on his research experience in the instrumental acoustics team at IRCAM, he is now seeking to extend the possibilities of the classical instrumentarium and blur the boundaries between acoustic and electronic music through the artistic implementation of various hybrid devices.
In 2022, he took part in a number of events to mark the centenary of the birth of the composer Iannis Xenakis (exhibition at the Philharmonie de Paris, conferences, publication). The musicological research he has been carrying out on Xenakis for several years has enabled him to reenact the Polytope de Cluny, an emblematic work of sound and light, that was performed during the Manifeste Festival, fifty years after its original creation.
Alongside his personal activites, Pierre Carré regularly works at IRCAM as Computer Music Designer on various projects during which he has collaborated with a number of composers and artists, including Aureliano Cattaneo, Roque Rivas, Murcof, /nu/thing, studio ExperiensS and Qudus Onekiku.
